This photograph was taken while exploring Vancouver Island's rugged west coast. I came across this wolf with its mother and two siblings as they searched the shoreline for food. For a brief moment, this individual stopped and held my gaze in an intense, quiet exchange I still remember clearly. It wasn't until I downloaded my cards later that day that I noticed the wolf had heterochromia, two different coloured eyes. What stays with me most, though, isn't the rarity, but the feeling of being seen by an animal that moves through this landscape with complete belonging.
